Large or Small; Mak it Count
Large or Small; Make it Count
Whether your home is large or small you will want to makeevery inch of it count along with the furniture you choose to put in your home.
So many people buy furniture without doing their homeworkfirst. You need to consider the spaceyou have, seems simple doesn’t it? Whenyou take a photo of the space and measurements you are better armed with usefulinformation and less likely to go blindly into the furniture selection process‘unprotected’. I say unprotected becauseI know what it’s like to be swayed by a pretty fabric or comfy style of apiece. To make an informed decision youmust be prepared to be sensible of many things.
First of all how will this piece serve the space itsintended? Will it fit? Does it meet the esthetic requirements? How about comfort, don’t forget comfort whenselecting sofas and chairs; style comes in many forms. If you bought a large sectional and got ithome only to discover that its way too large for the space, think aboutbreaking it up and using it as separates instead. An overstuffed sofa can be comfortable butnot an overstuffed room.
Always think of multipurpose when buying furniture. I don’t mean to harp on this, but it’simportant to think in terms of storage. Ottomans, footstools, cabinets and chests canall serve to hide throws, blankets and games, giving your room a comfortableuncluttered look. A group of four squareottomans that fit under a square coffee table is a great idea, but if eachottoman will provide storage it’s like hitting the double word score in a gameof Scrabble.
Bookcases are another great place to find extrastorage. Go through your books and ifthere are some books you no longer want, send them off to the Veteran’sHospital, Nursing Homes, or overseas to our service men and women. With a little extra space, you may find roomto store board games, photo albums or objects d’art you’ve wanted to display.
Don’t forget your cabinets and closets, storage space thereis just as important. With bathroomremodels I see a lot of medicine cabinets being taken out of bathrooms, so whatdo you do with all those items? If youare fortunate enough to have a linen/storage cabinet in or near your bath, simpleplastic drawers that you can find at bath shops or home improvement stores willprovide you with more organized space. Start small and work up to larger projects and before you know it youfind what you are looking for within easy reach.
