Accessories for Decor
With the change of seasons upon us, thoughts of decoratingfor the fall and holidays come to mind. First of all be prepared to put away some of those décor items you’vehad out for the past several months, even some photos you’ve had out deserve arest. You will want your newestdecorations to be noticed and appreciated without being crowded with familypictures. Remember if you have holidayoriented pictures, now is the time to incorporate them into your fall theme.
Hopefully you have a plastic tub or container of yourfavorite fall decorations stored in a closet or the garage, it’s time to takeit out and take stock of what you have. Do you still love everything? Isit still in as good of shape as you thought when you put it away? If not get rid of it now.
Access what you have left and what you might like to add,but don’t get carried away just yet. Setout your decorations, try to mix it up from last year, move the accessoriesinto different rooms, they’ll feel brand new in some cases. Once you have distributed your decorations, think of what you might like to add. Iknow many of you have already hit the discount stores and bought up lots of interestingnew things, so have fun putting them around in the prominent places of yourhome and distribute the older items around in other rooms.
If you haven’t fallen for new decorations yet and it is inthe budget, you’ll have a good idea of what spaces you’d like to fill, so makea list and shop with some abandon and some care and a lot of joy.
Simple additions are sometimes the most enjoyable, tryadding a row of martini glasses down the length of your dining room table andadd some granny smith apples, persimmons , or small pumpkins; just keep to onefruit here, the repetition will be more satisfying. You can add ribbons to candle sticks in fallcolors; double up the colors, like gold and deep rust or gold and deep plum.
If you are having a dinner party, buffet or formal carve outsome small squash, gourds or pumpkins for serving bowls; they make great saladdressing containers.
Don’t forget the front door, if you decorate for fall youcan add some gourds, natural or artificial to the pots on the front porch. These will enhance the fall wreath thatwelcomes your family and guests.
