Reuse, Recycle, Repurpose
In today’s economic climate it may be necessary to employ some of our parents or grandparents or even great grandparents standards. There is nothing wrong with reusing something old or even not so old these days; today we call it being ‘green’.
I’ve been working with a young bachelor who is furnishing his first home, a downtown loft. He’s looking for a cool urban look but finding purchasing new is quickly cutting into his dwindling bank account. Besides he wanted a look that wasn’t right out of a catalog. After making some basic furniture purchases for his foundation we headed downtown to a favorite used furniture store for some one of a kind pieces to give his loft a custom look with a youthful vibe.

Once the overwhelmed bachelor got his bearings he was able to see how a simple blanket chest could become a coffee table or additional seating while affording him valuable storage for DVD’s, sweaters or blankets. A chest isn’t relegated to any one room, think of the entry or the end of a hall or along a railing. A dresser can be used in a similar fashion if its lines are clean and not too bedroom specific. .

We found a wealth of mirrors that would suit this loft and one that was just perfect, adding another dimension.
Color was key to making this loft personal. This bachelor is feeling right at home in colors that translate a calming sense to busy downtown life. We will add more personal touches as time goes by; design is a journey and best enjoyed a little at a time.
