The Guest Room
Now that November is here along with cooler weather you will probably be having some overnight guests arrive for the holidays. There is still have time to get your guest room in shape so that everyone will be comfortable and cozy.
First order of business should be to spend the night in the guestroom; there is no better way to know all of the short comings of a room than to spend some time in it. You will want to know that the bed is comfortable and the sheets are fresh and in good shape. Pillows are so personal; it’s a good idea to have a variety on hand for your guests, some like them big and puffy while others want something a bit more firm. Be sure to have a bed layered with blankets; from cool cotton thermals to heavier types. Your guests will have different needs, so it’s nice to be prepared. Down blankets are light weight and can take the place of heavier wools that provide the warmth needed for a good nights sleep.
If you have room for a chair in the room, make sure you have a small table with a lamp for reading as well as a reading lamp for the bed. If you don’t have room for two lights, make sure you have a book light on the bedside table; a book wedge is a very nice touch and casts little light on anyone else that might be sharing the room.
Make sure you provide a little space in the closet and a few dresser drawers or a suitcase stand for your guests; no one likes to have to sort through a suit case that is lying on the floor.
A new toothbrush and some fragrant body wash will make your guest feel right at home in a far away place. Add some fresh flowers and a candle and you might make the 5 star rating.
