The Editing of a Room

If you are looking to make some space in a room for a different function, you'll need to be prepared to make some tough calls on some items.

First of all define what your want the function of the room to be.  Is it a recently vacated bedroom?  Maybe your last child has flown the nest and you can finally get serious about your hobby; sewing, painting, photography, scrapbooking, whatever, you;ll need sufficient space and a good source of light to work.

If this room needs to double as an overnight space you;ll have to take the sleeping needs of your guests into consideration.

After you know what the function of the room is to be.  Be prepared to edit, edit, edit.  In other words get rid of things that you don;t like or no longer need.  Sounds simple but it is difficult to part with some treasures so you must be firm.

You will do well to have boxes on hand and get rid of things you don;t like, period.  Why keep things that don;t bring you joy or are not useful? Donate them or throw them away if they can;t be recycled.  Next, those items you can;t part with, but don;t need to see daily should go into a storage box, plastic containers with tight fitting lids make this task easy.  You can stack many boxes on top of each other and still see what is contained within.

You probably have heard the six month or one year rule. If you haven't worn it in 6 months get rid of it. It's a good rule. Just think of the new space you;ll have and begin to fill it with the necessary shelves, tables and seating necessary to make your hobby enjoyable.
